Insta360 Go 2 Review: A tiny camera with impressive features

The Insta360 is a small camera with a lot of features. It is a 360-degree camera, which means that you can use it to capture 360-degree panoramic views for use in VR and online videos.  It can shoot 4K video and take 12 megapixel images.  On top of that, this camera is tiny: it weighs less than 2.5 ounces and is only 2.5-inches in diameter.  Even though it is tiny, the Insta360 Go 2 still feels solid and durable.  It has a metal shell with rubber grips on the bottom.  The Insta360 Go 2’s ergonomic design and light weight mean it feels comfortable to hold in

The Insta360 Go 2 is one of the smallest 360 cameras on the market—and it comes with a few extra features. For example, its tiny size means it’s not only easy to carry around, but it also makes for an interesting conversation starter. The camera is also equipped with several features that are absent in most other 360 cameras.

Insta360 recently launched the Insta360 Go 2 camera. The camera of the Insta360 Go 2 is similar to that of its predecessor. But it solved all the problems that the first generation of Go had. As a result, aspects such as battery life, improved image quality, longer recording time, remote control, live remote viewing, effortless operation, etc. have been greatly improved.

The Insta360 Go 2 is a small 2.1 x 0.9 x 0.8 inch action camera that looks like a regular USB flash drive. Its shape and size hold all the electronics you need: a sensor, 32GB of memory, a processor, a lens, a hidden front shutter button for solo camera control, and a battery.

There are three devices in the box. The pendant is a necklace with a magnetized plate that holds the Insta360 Go 2 in place when sewn or attached to fabric. While the Easy Clip has a handle that can be attached to the straps of a backpack or cap. In addition, the Pivot Stand has a self-adhesive backing that can be stuck to anything. There is an attachment that is compatible with GoPro-type mounts.

The Insta360 Go 2 is designed for situations where a regular action camera would be too conspicuous or too large. We hope that the hinge of the battery box can be turned. The orientation is suitable for vlogging, and you can put your finger on the shutter button.

A fantastic upgrade for the Insta360 Go 2 is the removable lens cap. Like the classic Go 2, the lens cap unscrews so you can replace it if it gets scratched. The camera is practically protected when it is in the bag, even if it is not stored properly. It has a water resistance of 1Px8. However, it is not suitable for swimming.

The Insta360 Go 2 was most often used with a battery holder, as you had to put the camera in the holder to charge the battery or run clips. It also has two keys and a thin but clear OLED screen.

The combination of the screen and physical buttons makes it easy to switch between modes, change settings and start/stop photos and videos, making the Go 2 almost a camera in itself. The box connects wirelessly to the camera. For example, you can leave the Insta360 Go 2 attached to the case and keep the case in your bag to use as a remote control when you want to take photos.

The retractable base serves as a handle for the mini stick. It keeps your hand in sight and makes it easy to pick up random clips.

It also features attractive folding legs that are perfect for relaxed group shots and slow-motion videos. There is also a standard threaded bracket on the bottom in case you need a standard tripod. The small built-in feet work well on flat surfaces and offer flexibility.

The Insta360 Go 2 can record videos at up to 2880 x 2880 resolution and 30 frames per second, but to accommodate the electronic image stabilization, a feature called FlowState, they are exported in 1440p (2560 x 1440). This has had a fantastic impact on the company’s 360 cameras. The resolution is slightly higher than that of the first-generation model, which had a 2720×2720 sensor with a maximum limit of 25 fps.

When the video was projected at dusk, despite the noise and lack of detail, the camera was able to capture the orange and red colors of the setting sun with the deep blue of the evening sky.

When testing the Go 2’s motion stabilization, the videos were shot in Pro-Cam mode, which offers maximum editing freedom. The Insta360 app allows us to easily adjust the field of view between Action, Narrow, Wide and Linear modes. In narrow mode the camera smooths the video so that some movements are imperceptible, while in wide mode the camera makes visible jumps back and forth.

Do not use the Go 2 to record long videos. However, it can hold about 30 minutes of unstabilized footage. This is reduced to 15 minutes when significant stabilisation is achieved and then to 10 minutes when FlowState is activated. But with the time-lapse setting, the Go 2 camera in the charging case can record about 110 minutes, which is equivalent to 7-minute photos.

The photos taken with the Insta360 Go 2 were excellent, but not as sharp and clear as those you get with a GoPro Hero9 or other large camera phones. In sunny and cloudy conditions, there’s a lack of detail that you won’t find on cameras with larger, more capable sensors.

The Go 2 is not designed for photography, but it does it well. They don’t have overly high resolution at 16×9 HD, but use Insat360’s Pure Shot method, which is similar to a soft HDR mode where multiple photos are taken and combined to create a photo that has better dynamic range than a single photo. It also features 120 fps HD slow motion and HDR video modes.

On the Go 2, the microphone was on top, and there is room for it in the tripod/battery holder. The presence of one microphone provides limited insight into environmental sounds related to the location of people, animals or objects. But it reproduces voices with a reasonable amount of bass, well-presented mids and clear highs.

Like the original Insta360 Go, the Insta360 Go 2 doesn’t last long without being charged. Instead of 30 minutes recording time, or better yet 150 minutes with the box plugged in and fully charged.

We found that with the Insta360 Go 2, you won’t get to the 30/150 minute mark if you’re taking fast photos.

The Go 2 can be purchased for $299. It is a good choice for people or companies who prefer mobile publishing for social media. Furthermore, there is no miniature camera on the market that can take photos at a 120 degree angle with this degree of stabilization or quality. The end result will look great on your phone.

And for the mobile vlogger or avid social media user, the image quality will be excellent, not to mention that the camera is small and portable enough to easily install anywhere. And the lack of confusing controls suits someone who isn’t sure what to do anyway when faced with different options.
