Netflix is enjoying a comeback, and that means an explosion of new movies and TV shows. While we’ve seen a lot of great content in the past, the streaming giant is introducing a lot of new stuff that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Here’s a list of a few of the best ones that’ll be on offer in the next year:
Netflix is the most popular streaming service around. As of June 2018, it had more than 117 million subscribers, and it has become the go-to place for binge-watching. You may want to watch more than one show at a time, for example, or you may just want to catch up on shows you missed—and Netflix has plenty of options to meet both needs.
From the end of the year to the start of 2020, Netflix will soon have the biggest line up of original movies and TV shows on its platform. With such an impressive list of new titles every year, it’s important to consider which titles to watch and when to watch them, especially as the company keeps adding more and more titles each year.
Netflix is probably the most culturally influential company of 2010, unless you count Facebook and Twitter. This is one reason why VHS and DVD rental stations like Blockbuster were destroyed. There is a lot of content on Netflix that you can enjoy watching. But sometimes too much choice is not a good thing. On Saturday night, you’re running around in circles not knowing what to watch next.Although Netflix is best known for its series, it also offers a wide selection of movies. While it’s fun to watch a show, sometimes you want to watch something that doesn’t take a lot of effort. Netflix not only streams content, but also creates and produces its own content. Netflix spent more than $8 billion on content in 2018. They have over 700 original TV series. Although the number of movies on Netflix has shrunk to make way for series, the list of movies is still quite large.
Until Netflix removes more movies, you should watch them as soon as possible. That’s why it was important for us to make this list.

- Director: E.L. Katz

- One year: 2017
2017 was a big year for Netflix original films. In my opinion, this is one of the most underrated movies you will find on Netflix. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from Game of Thrones plays a disgraced ex-cop who has just been released from a six-year prison sentence. They follow him as he faces his past and tries to reconcile with his family, while trying to rid himself of the gang ties he built up in prison. Another Netflix original movie.

70. Tau
- With stars: Micah Monroe, Ed Scrane, Gary Oldman, Fiston Barek.
- Director: Federico D’Alessandro
- Genre: Science Fiction, Thriller
- One year: 2018
Netflix has a great sci-fi collection, this is one of them. It tells the story of a woman (Micah Monroe) who tries to escape from a house that a scientist has lured her into. I try to keep the description as vague as possible, because if I say too much about this movie, it could spoil it. Gary Oldman is always a delight, and Ed Skrein delivers a goosebumps-inducing performance. Another Netflix original movie.
69. Stonehurst Sanctuary
- With stars: Kate Beckinsale, Jim Sturgess, David Tulis, Brendan Gleeson.
- Director: Brad Anderson
- Genre: Drama, Mystery, Horror, Thriller
- One year: 2014
This is the first original movie in this countdown that isn’t from Netflix. This is a pg-13 horror/thriller with a surprisingly good cast. From Kate Beckinsale to Ben Kingsley. Their performances alone make this movie worth watching.
The story is about a young doctor who finds a job in a mental institution. He soon discovers that he likes one of his colleagues. As the story progresses, he discovers that all is not as it seems in the orphanage.
68. Tramps
- With stars: Callum Turner, Grace Van Patten, Michal Vondel, Mike Birbiglia
- Director: Adam Leon
- Genre: Comedy, Romance
- One year: 2016
The movie Vagabonds tells the story of two aspiring criminals who fall in love. I feel like this is another situation where I should leave as few details as possible in the description so as not to spoil the movie and plot for you. Tramp has a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an average rating of 7/10 on Metacritic. If you’re looking for something fresh and fun, you should definitely give this movie a try. Another Netflix original movie.
67. Echo device
- With stars: Kevin Bacon, Zachary David Cope, Catherine Erbe, Illeana Douglas
- Director: David Koepp
- Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller
- One year: 1999
If you want to relive the late ’90s, when Y2K angst was at its peak and Kevin Bacon’s waning popularity was still at its height, you absolutely must watch Stir of Echoes. It tells the story of a man (Kevin Bacon) who starts having supernatural visions and ghosts after being hypnotized by his sister-in-law. This film is definitely an underrated gem from 1999. This is a good thriller with strong hints of horror.

If you are looking for something more modern, check out Triple Frontier. Ben Affleck leads a team of five former Special Forces soldiers who must rob a drug lord and rob him of his fortune. Of course, this is not without its consequences. The situation degenerates and becomes uncontrollable. This is a wild adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s Netflix’s original movie of 2019.
63. Housekeeper
- With stars: Morgana O’Reilly, Rima Te Viata, Glen-Paul Varu, Ross Harper.

In this 2014 dark comedy, a thief, played by Morgan O’Reilly, is caught and placed in the care of her estranged mother. Turns out her mother’s house is haunted, and you know what that means, right? Scam after scam. Since this is a New Zealand film, you can expect a few accents that you may not be familiar with. It’s a great popcorn movie.

A woman (played by Carla Gugino) accidentally kills her husband (played by Bruce Greenwood) by tying him to a bed frame. With no hope of escape or rescue, she must fight for her life and her sanity when she begins to hallucinate and hear voices. 61. The Iceman
- With stars: Michael Shannon, Chris Evans, James Franco, Winona Ryder.
- Director: Ariel Vromen.
- Genre: Biography, Crime, Drama
- One year: 2012
The Iceman tells the story of Richard Kuklinski, a notorious mafia killer, nicknamed Iceman because of his stern and cold nature. The story takes a new turn when he is arrested in 1986. This was a shock to his family, as neither his wife nor his daughter had any idea of his true profession.
In this film, Michael Shannon plays the main character in a more relaxed and understated way. It’s a slow movie, so if you like good characters and slow drama, you might like this movie.
60. Longest day
- With stars: John Wayne, Robert Ryan, Richard Burton.
- Director: Ken Annakin, Andrew Marton.
- Genre: Action, Drama, History
- One year: 1962
Although the list of classic movies on Netflix is getting smaller and smaller, you can still find a gem or two, like. B. The Longest Day. This is a biographical film that tells the story of D-Day in a gripping way. It shows the experiences of leaders and soldiers on the fronts of both sides (Allied and German). If you like a bit of nostalgia and old black and white movies, you should definitely watch this movie before it disappears from your Netflix library.

- With stars: Byung-hoon Lee, Min-sik Choi, Bo-ra Nam, Jung-hyuk Lee
- Director: Ji-Woon Kim
- Genre: Action, Crime, Drama
- One year: 2010
Netflix also has an excellent collection of foreign films. I Saw the Devil is a 2010 South Korean horror thriller about a secret agent who tortures and plays with a serial killer. This is another one of those situations where I can’t give too much information about the movie without spoiling it for you. Kofi Outlaw of Screen Rant describes it this way: I Saw the Devil takes a serial killer thriller and turns it into a reflection on the corrupting nature of evil that is both disturbing and fascinating. This film is not for the faint of heart. Another viewer said it was one of the most disgusting movies he had ever seen, but he still gave it an 8/10. If you are looking for a great Korean movie that will entertain you for more than two hours, then you should definitely watch this movie.
58. Birdhouse
- With stars: Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson.
- Director: Suzanne Bear.
- Genre: Drama, Horror, Science Fiction
- One year: 2018
Few Netflix movies have as much of an impact as Bird Box. It became a cultural phenomenon that reminded audiences of Sandra Bullock’s greatness. Although this film is considered one of the most overrated films of the year, it is still worth seeing, if only for its symbolism. It’s also an excellent survival horror film.
The story is about a mother, played by Sandra Bullock, five years after a phenomenon decimated much of society. She tells of her attempts to find refuge and safety in an apocalyptic world where what you see can lead to death. Now that the hype has died down, you can watch it without the social influences ringing in your ears.
57. O Brother, Where Art Thou?
- With stars: George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, John Goodman
- Director: Joel Cohen, Ethan Cohen.
- Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Thriller
- One year: 2000
A Coen brothers production. The timelessness and charm of this film are incomparable. It tells the story of three escaped prisoners in the 1930s who try to find a hidden treasure while trying to escape capture by a ruthless policeman. - Director: Jaco Van Dormael
- Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Romance
- One year: 2009
If you like arthouse films that make you think about life and instill some sort of existential angst, then this film is for you. It may seem overly pretentious to some, but in Mr. Nobody, Jared Letos played one of his best roles.
The story is set in 2092, when man has become immortal, and the last mortal man on earth reflects on his past and all the choices he has made and could have made. It is a story of reflection and how our choices shape us today.

- Director: Matt Palmer.
- Genre: Thriller
- One year: 2018
Caliber is a British thriller produced by and for Netflix. It tells the story of two childhood friends who go hunting in a remote area of the Scottish Highlands. As in most thrillers, not everything is what it seems. Their loyalty, spirit and strength are put to the test when they are forced to survive a situation none of them were prepared for. I know this description might be too vague, but if I give too much information, it would spoil the plot of the film.
This movie is definitely worth it. The 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes should be enough to convince you to go see the film.
53. Rising Kingdom
- With stars: Jared Gilman, Cara Hayward, Bruce Willis, Bill Murray.
- Director: Wes Anderson

This film probably deserves to be further down the list. It was one of the best films of 2012. It tells the story of two teenagers in love who decide to run away together.
